How Well Do You Know Your Partner?

The Mind Reader

You know them in the small, specific ways that actually matter. That kind of attention doesn't happen by accident.

Try This: Keep going — ask them one thing today you're not 100% sure about. There's always more.

You've earned a little celebration of your own.

What this looks like day to day

You know their order, their moods, and which of their friends they're annoyed with this week. You notice the shift in their voice on a call before they've said anything is wrong. This isn't luck — it's accumulated attention, and it usually means you've been listening during the unremarkable conversations rather than only the significant ones.

Where it gets difficult

The trap is assuming knowing them is the same as staying curious about them. People change, and someone who scored well on this a year ago can be answering from an outdated file without noticing. The other risk is doing all the noticing while being noticed less yourself — that imbalance is quietly corrosive. Being known matters as much as knowing. If you can't remember the last time they surprised you, ask something you don't already have an answer to. One practical check: can you name something they've changed their mind about in the last year? If nothing comes to mind, you may be reading a version of them that's a little out of date.
