They're only in town for the weekend
The instinct with limited time is to cram. Don't. Five small things blur into nothing; one big shared thing is what you'll both still be referring to on a video call three weeks later.
- Time
- One day
- Budget (for two)
- Under ₹1,500
- Effort
- Some planning
Agree one thing in advance
Decide together, before they arrive, on the single thing this visit is *for*. Everything else is optional. Without this, the whole visit gets eaten by admin, catching up with other people, and deciding what to do.
- Early — genuinely early
Somewhere that requires getting up before sunrise: a hill, a lake, a coast, a market that opens at 5am
The inconvenience is the feature. Having done something slightly absurd together is what makes it a memory instead of a nice afternoon.
The bit that matters: No photos for the first ten minutes after you arrive. Look at it first. The photos will still be there afterwards.
- Midday onward
Home, or anywhere you can do nothing without paying rent on a table
Come back and be boring together. Long-distance couples over-index on doing things, and never get the ordinary hours that actually make a relationship feel normal.
The bit that matters: Do a chore together. Groceries, laundry, cooking. It sounds like a waste of a visit and it's usually the part people miss most.
What to eat
Cook something together rather than going out. The shared task is the point, and it's the thing you can't do over a video call.
If you’re bringing something
Something they take back with them — small enough for hand luggage, and a reminder in the gap before the next visit:

Long-distance runs on effort that's visible from far away. The Challenge is built for exactly the stretch between visits.
